While Italian pipes are popularly known for their dramatic, bowl-centric sense of proportions, Savinelli's "106" leans more into the classic English design. Compared to the Italian marque's other straight Billiards, like the "101," "111 KS," "128," and "141 KS," the "106" Billiard is rendered in trimmer style, with more balanced proportions between bowl and shank. It's a wonderful rendition of the classic form, archetypically English and perfect for those interested in the history and quality of Savinelli but prefer a more conservative, reserved size.
Named after the Spanish word for "tortoise," Savinelli's Tortuga series is undeniably effective in its theme. The striking line is marked by a tortoiseshell-patterned acrylic stem, the mosaic-like visual texture of amber and caramel tones complementing the dark walnut stain of the stummel. Furthering the theme, the Italian marque pairs each briar with an acrylic chamber cap to match the stem — perfect for saving an unfinished bowl for later without fear of spilling ash, or for filling the chamber and slipping it into a jacket pocket so you're always ready for whenever an opportunity to smoke presents itself throughout the day.
